This is a wonderful hostel in a perfect location in Antigua. Clean rooms, SUPER comfortable beds, free coffee and tea at all hours. Secure lockers to store your things, very nice shared bathroom facilities. The roof deck is an awesome place to do yoga, chill out, and awe at the volcanoes that surround the city. Oh, and Tatjana (the owner) is seriously one of the best people on this earth. There isn't a kitchen here to cook your own food, but with all of the options in Antigua you won't want to. I highly recommend Purpose Hostel!read more

The Purpose Hostel was the best place I stayed during my trip to Antigua. It was constantly being cleaned and had the best staff. Tatjana was the best and had the greatest suggestions for things to do and places to eat. It made me feel at home even when I was in a different country. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.read more

Best hostel ever! The housekeeper is wonderful and helps with everything!! In the roof you have a good view point to the volcano mountains and can see explodes. The rooms are very clean and beautiful and the price is fair.read more

I came here with some friends at my Spanish school for the weekend. I haven’t stayed at a hostel before but this was a really great experience. My group of four got a private room with 2 queen beds inside. The room was clean and spacious. There was a fan, towels and extra blankets. The shared bathrooms are clean and present on both floors. I never had to wait. I appreciate the free water, hot tea and strong coffee. The hostel seems environmentally conscious and invested in social community projects. They also have shuttles daily that can take you to different parts of Guatemala. The hostel is safe and the other guests were quiet and respectful. I highly recommend this place.read more

Excellent hostel, would definitely stay again. Clean, new, plenty of areas to hangout including the amazing rooftop. Free coffee and water available and lots of games. Alex at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We arrived early in the morning and they were able to turn around the room quickly to allow us to check in early after a long overnight journey. Always tried their best to please the visitors. I also had clothes I wanted to get rid of and they offered to donate them which I love! Location was good, wifi was decent, showers were good (some better pressure than others). Would be happy to return!read more

Excellent, clean, safe hostel. Tatjana (owner) was super helpful with local knowledge and arranging some travel logistics for us. She is inspirational and works really hard to serve and do good for her community. Free coffee and tea available at entrance 24/7. Beautiful rooftop Garden with herbs available for free. Filtered water to fill bottles for free. Plenty of common areas to relax in as well. Best hostel I've stayed at - hands down.read more

We paid $50 (US) for two basic dorm beds and were not provided towels- they wanted to charge us an extra $3 for two towels (on top of deposit). At the price we were paying this didn’t feel great. Also no kitchen, and not even a fridge to keep water or milk in (and no breakfast so it would be good to have a place to store milk for coffee/cereal). Otherwise a nice place with filter water and tea, and a nice rooftop.read more

The best hostel I've stayed at yet throughout my travels. Tatjana (co-owner) goes out of her way to ensure every guest is comfortable, accommodated, and connected to the best services the city has to offer (whether hiking the volcano or catching a shuttle). Walking distance to anywhere in Antigua, comfortable, hot water, reliable internet, amazing rooftop view and a charitable mission that goes beyond simply offering a place to stay. Truly feels like I have a home in Guatemala knowing The Purpose Hostel is always there. Can't recommend this place enough.read more

Super nice and helpful staff! They also give great recommendations on where to eat our in restaurants. Everything is really clean and the beds are comfortable! Every bed in the dorm has its own plug, own light and storage room that can be locked. It's also really safe! Free water, coffee and tea at any time! And walking distance to all major places in the city. All in all a great place to stay!read more

No kitchen. First hostel I've ever encountered that. Also the exchange from HostelWorld's price was a bit weird. Otherwise, super clean and quite hostel.

The Purpose Hostel is an awesome new place in a lovely part of Antigua! It's immaculately clean, modern and well thought out. It's complete with a few homey touches like bed curtains, personal lights and outlets, cute storage pockets hand-made by the local sewing school and HOT showers! What makes this place special is their community involvement and the unbelievably friendly staff! Take the time to chat with one of the owners over a cup of high quality coffee that's available all day. It's not an overly social hostel, but if you need a little taste of home and friendly faces at the end of the day, this is your place. Thank you Purpose!!read more

Even if this place would not have all the great facilities it has, it would still be 5/5 stars. I have rarely had such genuine, helpful and altogether friendly hosts—including all hotels I've stayed at over the years—as I did here in Antigua. "Where can I best do laundry?", "let me walk you to our neighbours who do!" "Is there a nice place to grab a quick snack?" "Sure! There is [...] if you want this, or [...] if you want that" "How do I get to XYZ?", "Let me take care of it for you, it will be around [...] quetzales and you'll have to pick up your tickets at [...]. Other options could be [...] or [...]" "Is there a place where I can get a massage?" "O yes! I always go to [...]! He's cheap and good but might be booked out. Let me make a few calls". Whatever my request was, they were always super helpful. Outside of all my requests, they were also just fun and friendly conversation partners. On top of that, you have (1) good beds, (2) nice hot showers, (3) everything is clean and (4) they develop the community through hiring locals who haven't worked in hospitality before and who are willing to learn English. So "purpose" does actually mean something here. Cannot recommend highly enough. Cheers!read more

My first rating of 10 to my favourite hostel in the world 😉 I’ve backpacked to more than 60 countries and have stayed at many hostels. This is the hostel that connected by heart and soul. Extremely clean, amazingly positive and sincerely friendly. I can feel the love and care from the owner Tatiana. She made me feel like home. I suffered from stomach pain and skin rash, she was always willing to help me find hospital snd doctor. The rooftop view is absolutely amazing. Great herbal garden ! You can also do yoga there! Everything is handmade! They hire deaf people to support their employment ! Such a beautiful and personal hostel! Also very quiet and cozy. Cannot tell you how much I love about this place! End up staying for 4 nights in this hostel and wanna go back to this place I felt like “home”! Thanks Tatiana! You are the best !read more

So we discovered this place by chance after leaving Shemuc Champey and talking to another. We mentioned we hadn't booked anywhere and she said she had been and loved it. We weren't disappointed. The owner Tatjana was amazing from the get go. She sorted our shuttle for the airport, recommended places to eat, to go and more. The place itself is lovely, facilities were clean, the room was comfortable, there's areas to socialise with bean bags and comfy couches and my favourite part being the rooftop. On the roof you can chill (with the lovely coffee she provided) there's benches and cushions, there's yoga mats and an incredible herb garden she encourages you to use. You can see the town, the volcanoes and the stars were gorgeous. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Will definitely be visiting again!read more

Ohhhh The Purpose Hostel- I think of my time here and my heart could burst from happiness. Tatjana was welcoming from the moment we walked through the door (she even lent me her backpack to bring on my hike to acatenango). The rooms are so clean and comfortable. The rooftop is UNREAL. The feeling of community there created a home-like environment, and I made lifelong friends. I recommend this place to anyone staying in Antigua. Miss you, mi Guate familia💗read more
